There’s something under her skin, in her muscles, pulling them taut, something barely restrained and just visible in the back of her dark brown eyes if Nat looks long and deep enough, something that makes Lottie grit her teeth when she comes on Nat’s thigh, on her hands, makes her grip Nat’s hair with just a bit more strength than usual. It’s feral, and it’s unhinged, and Nat feels like Lottie’s afraid of it, of herself.
Lottie is gentle because that’s who she is, and because she wants to be, but also because she’s been holding back.
And because Lottie’s gentle, Nat knows she will never ask, never bring it up, not when she feels so clearly scared of herself because of it, so she’ll have to take the lead if she wants to know.
