The problem was that apparently Eddie had difficulties being honest to both the people around him and himself. He must've gotten so good at pretending that even he believed some of the lies he created. Like the fact that he was attracted to women and not hopelessly pining for his best friend.
Yes, Christopher had known this for a while. Even before he had left L.A. Somehow, he figured Eddie would realise it sooner or later but now it had been more than a year and his dad was still completely oblivious. And Christopher could not take it anymore. Not if he wanted to keep his sanity.
or, Christopher Diaz is sick of watching Eddie and Buck be oblivious, so he takes matters into his own hands.

Summary
With the overall confusion and drowsiness, Buck only gathered the few things important to him:
1. He has a moderate concussion.
2. LA was removed from the competition since nobody was there to sub in for Buck.
3. He and Eddie can't take a plane back home, it'll worsen his symptoms.
4. He needs to be monitored for at least forty-eight hours, a certified paramedic.
5. That certified paramedic would be Eddie.
-------------------Or, Buck gets a concussion at the firefighter games and Eddie has to take care of him.

Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)
