His first thought was of Maria, of warmth and music and stars. It always was.
His second, though, was of Blue, of kindness and laughter and souls singing in harmony, until one was just gone.

Shadow doesn't know Sonic's name, but feels obligated to find his family and apologize to them for letting him die. Shadow is unaware that Sonic is very much not dead. It takes far too long to figure this out.

Summary
“Didn’t even look like Sonic, honestly-” Amy starts, and Tails continues.
“Green spikes, really messy bangs- brown eyes I think? I think he called you Arthur first- said a friend told him you were here.”
“He did? I didn’t even hear that- he was so quiet asking the receptionist. I didn’t catch it-” Amy tilts her head as she processes the new information. Tails nods, but stops as he notices Sonic has gone deathly still.
“....Sonic?” The hedgehog in question blinks as he remembers where he is. He looks to Knuckles, who has very conveniently gotten very quiet. A ping comes in on Knuckle’s communicator, and Sonic glances down at it for a moment before making eye contact with an increasingly uncomfortable echidna.

Summary
Four months ago, the band Soundspeed was formed. Now, still nobodies, the gaggle of young adults vies to compete in the biggest Battle of the Bands competition on the east coast. Six elimination rounds. Six total songs. Sonic is convinced it wouldn't be too hard. That is, at least, until he meets the ultimate distraction: a tall, dark, and handsome waiter named Shadow.
Unfortunately for the rest of the band, Shadow is a song Sonic just can't get out of his head.

“Alright,” Sonic says finally. “You win. I’ll take a vacation.”
Tails’ face lights up, his ears perking as he turns to Sonic with a wide grin. “Really? You mean it?”
“Yeah, I mean it,” Sonic replies, chuckling at Tails’ enthusiasm. “But don’t think this means I’m gonna turn into a couch potato or anything. I’ll still be around if you guys need me. Just… I guess at a slower pace for a while.”
Or: Sonic and Shadow take a long awaited vacation, and end up learning a lot about themselves and each other.
