emil makes a little display of their heights with his hands. ada's is a bit lower, and he raises it with an almost mischievous little smile, "—and i'm all the way up here."
[ emil and ada are settling into their paradise after two years of a long, hard journey across the country on the run. settled now into a peaceful, quiet mountain town, isolated from the world with new names to cover their identity, emil must learn to read—a task proving much easier said than done. ]
