“My mother doesn’t remember half of her children as it is,” she said with a note of bitterness. “If you do something to impress her, it won’t matter. Return the bolt in her name. She’ll claim you if you act the part. If you stay unclaimed then they'll figure out what you really are," she said, squeezing his hands tightly. Percy's heart sped up.
"I - I don't know the first thing about Aphrodite-"
"My mother was born of sea foam," Silena cut him off. "And if you're really who I think you are... you are the sea. You can pull this off," she said and touched his cheek. "Get the bolt. Survive," she said. Percy swallowed.
"What if I can't act the part?" He asked. Silena's expression went blank for a moment. Slowly, she slipped off her bracelet and placed it in his hands.
"If you're going to be one of us... you better learn."

“Shannon, slow down; you don’t have to drag me.” Eddie laughs as he stumbles behind her a few steps, their hands locked together. She’s dragging him to the auditorium to audition for Pride and Prejudice, an adaptation. Him as Mr. Darcy and her as Jane. He’d much rather act opposite her as Mr. Bingley, but Shannon insisted he was better suited for the taciturn Mr. Darcy.
“I don’t want you to change your mind,” Shannon calls over her shoulder.
“I’m not!” Eddie pants, wishing she would slow down for just a moment. “I promised we’d do the play together, and I meant it, Shan.”
They reach the auditorium doors and finally come to a stop. Eddie hunches over so he can catch his breath, panting heavily. Maybe he should take up jogging or something.
“Are you ready?” Shannon asks, holding out her hand, which Eddie takes in his own.
“As I’ll ever be.”

“What?” She asks innocently, “I like making sure they’re safe, is all.”
“Maddie, that was the easiest job they’ve both done in months. They could have done it blindfolded, with their hands tied behind their backs in broad daylight and have been fine,” Athena’s quick response is sharp, but teasing.

Summary
To his left, a cluster of young men, barely old enough to be in here, were living their lives through their phone screens. They preened and posed, muscles straining against designer t-shirts, capturing manufactured moments of joy for an audience that wasn't here. Buck felt a surge of contempt so sharp and sudden it almost made him flinch. He’d been that young once, though his own brand of youthful idiocy had also involved running into burning buildings, not just perfecting a pout for Instagram.
To his right, a group of older men, their faces a roadmap of past disappointments, watched the younger crowd with a hungry, almost predatory nostalgia. They were looking for a night, an hour, a few minutes to feel like the men they used to be. Buck looked away. He was thirty-four, caught in the no-man’s-land between the two, and felt an uncomfortable kinship with both groups that made his skin crawl.
This was a mistake. He should have stayed home.

The information around what hormones did to bonded alphas was pretty well-documented.
In short, everyone knew that alphas got more protective when their omegas were carrying and thus more vulnerable, and it was the sort of thing people liked to joke about when there was an announcement.
What they didn’t tell you was what happened if the alpha was already very protective, a first responder, and the hormones sent him into overdrive.
Buck and Eddie get ready to welcome a new addition to the family, with mostly foreseeable results.

There’s a protocol for a lot of scenarios, both in the Army and as an EMT. Eddie is used to knowing what to do, and how to do it; who to help, and where. Yet now, hopelessness splits through him like a bullet. Eddie doesn’t know what else to do other than hold his kid tighter and press his lips to his temple.
“Is that– Christopher?” Hen asks over his shoulder. The tiny pocket of universe that he’s created with just him, his son, and Buck’s name battering in his chest unravels.
Still keeping Christopher in his arms, Eddie rises to his feet. “I made Buck watch him for the day to get him out of the house. He– he brought him to the pier.”
“Where is he, Eddie?” Bobby asks carefully.
