Summary
Early spring in Northern Italy is damp and cold. Abbot Lorenzo doesn’t like this time of year — it gets into his old bones.
One evening, a stranger arrives at the abbey gate. Vincenzo Benitez, a Mozarab traveler, is calm and smiling. He is also barefoot. His feet are dusty, scratched, and slightly blue from the cold. When the abbot expresses his horror, Benitez explains that he grew used to warm sand and stones in hot countries. He simply forgot that not everywhere is always warm.
Lorenzo cannot let this pass. He finds an old pair of shoes, insists that the traveler wear them, and invites him to share a humble meal. There is no grand speech, no deep theological discussion — only soup, bread, a crackling fire, and one stubborn abbot determined to warm a stranger’s feet.
A short, cozy vignette about small kindnesses and the quiet beginning of spring.

Summary
These all started as "moments." Some grew into longer sequences. Others remain stand alone. I've decided to post them all as a single work. If a chapter requires warnings, I'll mention that in the chapter note.

Summary
“Oh, Vincent,” Bellini laughs with genuine mirth, if not warmth. “The curia may be a wasp’s nest, but we aren’t a pack of lemmings. No one is competing for that poisoned chalice. Even Thomas would merely accept it. He would accept anything, from your hand. But you’d never do such a thing to him.”
“But you think I’d do it to you.” Vincent smiles. “Aldo, nobody is going to be sacrificed. Not in this century. Not if I can help it.”
