Summary
"They are old swords, very old swords of the High Elves of the West, my kin. They were made in Gondolin for the Goblin-wars. They must have come from a dragon's hoard or goblin plunder, for dragons and goblins destroyed that city many ages ago. This, Thorin, the runes name Orcrist, the Goblin-cleaver in the ancient tongue of Gondolin; it was a famous blade. This, Gandalf, was Glamdring, Foe-hammer that the king of Gondolin once wore. Keep them well!"
"Whence did the trolls get them, I wonder?" said Thorin looking at his sword with new interest.
"I could not say," said Elrond, "but one may guess that your trolls had plundered other plunderers, or come on the remnants of old robberies in some hold in the mountains of the North. I have heard that there are still forgotten treasures of old to be found in the deserted caverns of the mines of Moria, since the dwarf and goblin war."
Thorin pondered these words. "I will keep this sword in honour," he said. "May it soon cleave goblins once again!"

Summary
"”Now it is told that in the bearing of her son Míriel was consumed in spirit and body; and that after his birth she yearned for rest from the labour of living. And she said to Finwë ‘Never again shall I bear a child; for strength that would have nourished the life of many have gone forth into Fëanáro.’ Then Manwë granted the prayer of Míriel. And she went to Lorien, and laid her down to sleep upon a bed of flowers [>beneath a silver tree]; and there her fair body remained unwithered in the keeping of the maidens of Estë."
In which Indis comes to terms with the legacy of Miriel's choices.

Summary
"The hobbits sprang to their feet in alarm, and ran to the western rim. They found that they were upon an island in the fog. Even as they looked out in dismay towards the setting sun, it sank before their eyes into a white sea, and a cold grey shadow sprang up in the East behind. The fog rolled up to the walls and rose above them, and as it mounted it bent over their heads until it became a roof: they were shut in a hall of mist whose central pillar was the standing stone.
"They felt as if a trap was closing about them; but they did not quite lose heart. "

Summary
"I had of course read Doctor Watson's account in The Strand and my brother's eulogizing letters carried by the Daily Telegraph that preceded it. I was gratified by the latter's kind words, and even Doctor Watson's grudging admission of my criminal accomplishments did not go unmarked or unappreciated. A dead man will naturally have some interest in how he's remembered, or would if given the chance."
In which Holmes and Moriarty both survive the Fall, and meet one last time after it all.

Summary
These four vignettes were inspired by the Advent themes. They focus on the four noble women of Gondor and Rohan around the time of the Ring War, and are each inspired by a candle on the Advent wreath, and by an inequality that I consider the mark of a broken world.

Summary
A pair of vignettes examining the after-effects of Isildur's refusal to destroy the ring.
- Jus ad Bellum is a character study of Elrond. It also features a cameo by Valandil (Isildur's son) and references to Maglor, Gil-Galad and Isildur.
- Jus in Bello is more political in nature. Set after Elrond's journey to Valinor, it features Gil-galad and Elrond in equal measures, and again discusses Isildur.

A lovely device for looking at the way Sherlock's and John's relationship developed over the years. Equal parts sweet and bittersweet.

He’d thought it could work. He really did. The problem is, it's such a big lie to sustain. John/Mary, hinted at pre-John/Sherlock.

Would John and Mary really be able to move forward with their marriage, as they try to in HLV? This is a very nice look at the dynamic between them and offers a compelling altrnative to (that particular) happily-ever-after.

A delightfully spot-on characterization of Mycroft and John, putting both of them out of their comfort zone. For all this warns of angst, by post-Reichenbach standards it's positively fluffy but not in a way that leaves you with the fandom equivalent of a toothache. Original framing device, great humor throughout, and just some very nice slices of life for this unusual characterization.

Summary
“Brother-mine… don’t appal me when I’m high.”
Sherlock twisted his arm painfully behind his back and slammed him against the wall.
Mycroft blinked, open-mouthed and gasping, partially from the pain but mostly from surprise. He’d forgotten how strong Sherlock was when he was like this; how violent. He should have been terrified. His expression almost certainly read that way to John—a small blessing, really. The rush of adrenaline hit his bloodstream in the same way he imagined the cocaine hit Sherlock’s.

Bookmarker's Notes
I don't always enjoy incest, particularly sexually explicit incest, both because it's so often done badly and because I find the morals of it... troubling. Power dynamics in families can be so tricky, it would take a lot to convince me such a relationship was truly consensual.
Whatever it says about me as a person, that usual moral problem turns into a real strength in this fic. At some level, this relationship is nonconsensual - but from both sides, simultaneously. Mycroft is clearly in control of both his own actions and Sherlock's (the "Good boy" with its BDSM undertones was a wonderful touch), but I also kept hearing John's words in the canon: "He could snap you in two, and right now I am slightly worried that he might." As much as Mycroft seems to want this encounter, I'm not entirely sure he could safely refuse if he were inclined to. My inner academic (former philosophy grad student here) wants to work out the counterfactuals in this whole set-up, but really, the moment is just too fun for too much thought here.
This is sexually explicit but not overdone and not in a bad way. In terms of plot it's almost a PWP, which isn't a bad thing but once you move past the plot to what's going on behind those actions it becomes something else entirely. I also couldn't quite forget the showdown with Magnussen that's coming - like most fans, I have my theories about just why Mycroft brought that laptop to a family Christmas dinner, how complicit was he in Sherlock's plan, etc. And now I'm wondering how much Mycroft was manipulating him, putting his brother in harm's way (because let's face it, if he enjoys a high Sherlock so much that has to face how carefully he pushes his brother toward sobriety), how much of this sexual dynamic carries over.
All that in under 2k words. That's got to be some kind of record. Really, this fic is like those decadent deserts Mycroft never allows himself where you simply have to savor every bite and then spend the afternoon reliving the balance of nutmeg against cinnamon. If the genre at all appeals to you, I can't recommend it enough.

Sherlock’s eyes flew open, and the complete unexpectedness of it made John drop Sherlock’s hand in surprise. The sight of that beloved blue-grey-green shade staring at him with such intensity made John’s heart swell.

A nice gapfiller around the incident in CAM's office, in "His Last Vow." Very angsty, but in a good way.
