Xiao can’t stop himself when he feels his mouth falling agape. He’s pretty sure that the last time he followed Rex Lapis to the gathering of the Seven, Barbatos didn’t look like this. “My lord, wasn’t he a wind sprite?” Upon noticing Barbatos’ stare, he adds, “I mean no offence, Lord Barbatos.”
“Indeed, you are correct,” Rex Lapis says, sighing. His eyes flicker back to the Anemo Archon. “I believe he has shapeshifted himself, and now he doesn’t know what to do with his current form. I tried communicating with him but to no avail.”
Barbatos has always lived as a wind sprite. Now that he has a mortal form, it's up to Xiao to teach him a thing or two about the world.

Xingqiu had told Chongyun, all those years ago, most of the truth - that he’d gotten his Vision in the rainstorm that had pummelled Liyue Harbor while Chongyun had been recuperating from his disastrous Dragonspine expedition, that perhaps even the Archons had known not to separate Xingqiu and Chongyun in any way. It had been half a joke, but Chongyun had accepted it with a pleased smile.
He doesn’t know what it says about him that he remembers, with aching clarity, that moment where he’d been so coldly angry about not being able to protect Chongyun that he’d attracted the attention of the Archons themselves. Every time he touches his Vision, he gets a flash of that frigid, relentless part of himself.
And it feels ugly.
