Summary
The last thing Buck remembered was the zipper.
He remembered the heavy, black plastic sliding shut, sealing away the pale, mud-streaked face that had been looking at him with such cold anger just hours ago. He saw the blue tinge of Eddie’s lips, the absolute stillness of his chest. He heard the sound—that sharp, final zzzzzt—cutting through the rain, erasing the last piece of Eddie Diaz from the world.
Then, the silence hit him. Not the quiet of the storm, but the suffocating, heavy silence of a world that was suddenly empty.

Summary
Heat for an Omega was a time where they were especially physically and emotionally fragile. Extreme horniness was actually rarely a factor, despite their hormones running rampant. Omegas who were single, weren’t close with their family, or just didn’t have any family relied on Heat Helpers like Eddie to protect them during their heat.

Summary
“Fuck it,” Eddie mumbled before unlocking the phone again and opening his text thread with Buck. They hadn’t texted since Buck asked him if he wanted a scone or a danish from their favorite coffee shop before their last shift. Eddie sighed and pressed the corner of the phone against his forehead.
He didn’t want to ask for help. He could spend another hour circling around the city. But he didn’t want to. He wanted this awful horrible day to be done. He wanted to hold his child and pretend for a little bit that everything was still whole. He sighed again before pressing call and pressing the phone to his ear.

Eddie finally asks for what he needs in the aftermath of the sudden loss of his Abuela. Buck finally stops running from his grief. And then Eddie’s parents show up.

Summary
“You got hard,” Eddie says simply. “I saw it…” Then, with this purse of his mouth, this raise of his eyebrows. “I felt it.”
“Jesus.” Buck can’t breathe. He stumbles a few steps back and ends up on a wall, still staring at Eddie, in his bedroom, looking shadowed and sinuous. “That doesn’t… okay, what is going on here, Eddie?”
“You tell me,” Eddie answers, all husky, and fuck—it roars through Buck, builds in the center of him until he’s on fire.
This isn’t normal. This isn’t Eddie, and yet, Buck’s throat is dry, and his dick is hard, and all he can think is that he wants it. All he can think is that he doesn’t know how to fight this. Doesn’t know how to say no to it.
All he can think is that he wants Eddie.

“I’m in love with you,” Eddie repeats, softening his voice and taking a step closer. Buck seems frozen in place and is staring, unblinking, at Eddie.
“You’re - you’re just confused. The shock, it - maybe you need to go to sleep,” Buck insists.
“No confusion. Just,” Eddie takes a deep breath and rolls his eyes because he can’t believe he’s actually giving credit to the woman who almost killed him. “Just clarity.”or

Before Eddie can think of any more excuses, Buck bursts back through the surface of the water with Eddie’s body in his arms.
Eddie looks down at himself, still kneeling on the dock, and then at what is unmistakably also him in the water. Buck sucks in a great gasp of air, but the Eddie in the water doesn’t. His head slumps limp onto Buck’s shoulder, and the puzzle pieces of the last few minutes suddenly fall into place.
Finding himself back on the dock with no memory of how he got there. Buck unable to see or hear him. Eddie’s hand passing right through him.
Oh. He didn’t make it out of the water. He drowned.

Summary
Eddie’s shoulders drop as he slips the gloves back on with practiced diligence. “Sorry, it’s not—it’s not you. My, uh… when I touch people sometimes, a lot of times, people get hurt.”
“Get hurt?” Buck echoes.
Eddie swallows and flexes his hand. “Yeah, i-it’s hard to explain, but it’s bad. It’s not… always. It’s gotten better, and if I’m concentrating, usually I can keep it from—but then if it lasts too long, or if I get distracted or startled… it’s just better if there’s no touching.”
“You know,” Buck tries, all easy, “I am pretty good at getting hurt.”

Summary
Buck runs into storms because it hurts less than standing still.
Eddie studies them because control is the only thing that’s ever kept him breathing.
Thrown together in the wreckage of a season that’s tearing the world apart, they clash like thunder.
When the sirens wail and the winds rise, so do feelings they can’t outrun.
They weren’t supposed to care.
They weren’t supposed to break.
But love, like the sky, doesn’t ask permission before it takes you.

Summary
There's a part of Eddie that's tempted to do something insane, something that'll absolutely fuck up this Eddie's day, if he's a real person with a real life that Eddie is just borrowing for the time being, and not an elaborate figment of his own subconscious. Something like hopping on a plane to Los Angeles, tracking down whatever version of Buck lives there now, seeing what happens.
He wants to know if Buck would smile at him again, without the weight of history between them. If maybe, in a different world, he'd want Eddie.
Or: in the aftermath of a deadly car accident, Eddie finds himself able to visit other lives he could have lived: other worlds, other possibilities, and maybe - just maybe - a chance to get things right.

Summary
God, Eddie was glad he wasn't here. He was glad that if anyone had to be on this plane that it was him and not Buck, or Bobby, or Chim, or Hen. But especially not Buck. Buck, who in less than 24 hours was going to have to explain to Christopher what had happened. Who in less than an hour was going to be his son’s legal guardian and he wouldn't even know it. Buck, who was expecting a call soon.
or
When Eddie's plane goes down, he leaves Buck a voicemail telling him how he feels, after all, he was about to die. Only he didn't die. And when he returns, Buck doesn't say anything about the voicemail and Eddie assumes that mean Buck just isn't interested.

Summary
He starts carrying around his old stethoscope from his Army days—the one he’d snuck from his pack to his regular luggage, the day he flew out of Afghanistan for good, because he figured he’d need it again. Or maybe he just wanted a reminder of it, of the fact that he had done it, had gone to war and it wasn’t some elaborate, feverish nightmare.
Now, it just heightens the feverish nightmare of the fact that his heart cannot beat without his son.
He wakes up in the middle of the night and checks it—his heart, still pounding in his chest. He wakes up in the middle of the night and checks on Christopher, too. He watches him breathe as he sleeps and matches his breath with it.
He figures out that when he’s at work, without Christopher, he doesn’t really need to eat or rest. If he injures himself, he won’t bleed until he’s home. His body doesn’t process any sensation or experience without Christopher. He gets pale and cold after a couple of hours without him. He’s nothing but a walking corpse until he sees his son again.
[AU where Eddie's heart stops beating unless he's around Christopher; or, a study in how to live for yourself.]

“We’ll be long distance for however long you’re gone,” Buck says reassuringly, crowding closer until Eddie’s arms are full of warm, sweet-smelling boyfriend. “You’re not getting rid of me just by going to Texas. You’d have to try a lot harder than that.” Buck’s lips are against his a moment later and Eddie sinks into the lush kiss eagerly, wanting to soak up every last bit of Buck before he folds himself down and ships himself off to El Paso to be a dutiful son.

Summary
“You don’t have to,” Buck says quickly. “You could just leave it. Don’t look.”
Eddie glances up at him, and they both know without saying it that he isn’t going to let this go.
There’s no way he can look away now, not after seeing the way Buck reacted.
“Or maybe just not now,” Buck says softly, stepping closer, his hand settling gently over the screen like he can shield Eddie from what’s on it. “Maybe leave it for now. You’re not… Eddie, you’re not doing well right now. I’ve been so worried about you and this—” his voice catches, “—you… Eddie, please don’t. Just leave it.”
It stings to hear the worry out loud, even if he knew it was there.
He wants to do what Buck says, he wants to trust his friend and give him what he’s asking.
Buck never asks for anything.
Eddie moves Buck’s hand aside gently, giving it a brief squeeze. “Can’t do that, Buck.”
Or; After Christopher leaves for El Paso, Buck decides that he and Eddie should trace their family trees to keep Eddie’s mind occupied elsewhere. The results lead Eddie to face a family secret.

Summary
After he's satisfied with the videos on his phone he looks at Eddie, "So, besides you being bad at tiktok and having the cutest kid on the planet—who is absolutely welcome in the studio any time, by the way—is there anything else I should know before we become dance partners?"
Maybe it's the cocky grin on Buck's face or the way Eddie can feel the start of something in his gut when he looks at Buck, but either way he says, "I don't do showmances. We're going to win this season, but I'm not getting votes by making doe eyes at you and leaking rumors to the press."
"What if they're not rumors?" Buck waggles his eyebrows.
