Spoilers up to about Chapter 147 (middle of volume 15). Season 3 of the Anime ends in the middle of 127. However, the fanfic plays earlier, around chapter 137 or so.
Instead of trying to convince Aqua to stop or to simply keep an eye on him, Akane decides to focus her efforts on investigating Kamiki Hikaru's crimes instead. She managed to dig up sufficient evidence against him, but Aqua - who has continued his mental downward spiral despite Ruby's best efforts - does not take the news of his arrest well...

Thin silver glinted.
A sharp clink echoed on the concrete floor.
The room stilled.
Aizawa’s brows furrowed. “What the hell is that!?”
Soichiro’s eyes followed the glinting razor blade on the floor. He hesitated, but when he spoke his voice was low “Matsuda…?”
Mogi shifted his stance, unexpectedly solemn.
Light leaned forward, suspicion flickered in his eyes. “Why do you have that in your wallet?”
Matsuda scrambled, hand shooting out to reclaim the fallen object, but he wasn’t fast enough.
L’s pale fingers intercepted, plucking the razor blade cleanly from the floor before Matsuda’s grasp could close. He held it aloft, pinched delicately between thumb and forefinger, bringing it closer to his face.
Matsuda is put into an unpredictable situation when his secret addiction is abruptly exposed to the task force members. Set duting the Yotsuba arc.
