Jayce reached out a hand, careful. “Did something happen last night?”
Viktor stiffened. That question was awfully specific. And he’d wanted Jayce to ask, to know, but he didn’t know how to explain. Couldn’t push himself to say the words.
Viktor gripped his mug tighter. Even the sweetmilk tasted like ashes. “Why would you think that?”
Jayce bit his lip. “Caitlyn said she saw you enter the gardens. By the time I went looking for you, you were long gone, and I assumed you would be here. And I suppose you don’t have to tell me more than you’re ready to. But I can tell something’s wrong, and I want to help, but I can’t if you keep pretending everything’s fine.”
Viktor shook his head, Jayce always wanted to help. He was a builder, an inventor, and he wanted to solve problems, to fix the situation until everything was alright. When Viktor’s mobility worsened, Jayce had worked with his doctor to design and craft improved braces and his crutch, but Jayce was ill equipped to deal with problems that had no answer.
Viktor returns to the lab after being assaulted at a gala. Jayce finds him there.

“I thought I might find you here.”
Viktor stiffened as Jayce entered the greenhouse. It wasn’t that Viktor didn’t want Jayce around, but he hadn’t sought Jayce out as often. It was difficult—too difficult, perhaps, and Viktor preferred to avoid that which caused his emotions to resurface. He’d never carved out his feelings as he thought, and now that he recognized their return, he didn’t know how to let them run their course anymore.
It had been so easy with Jayce, once. A quiet coexistence, always being on the same page. The same dream, the same goals, a shared brilliance that had allowed them to succeed at something that should have been impossible.

After realizing where the glorious evolution would lead, Viktor released all the souls he healed and isolated him within his greenhouse. Jayce stays with him to help him figure out how to stay connected to the world.

They seek shelter in Viktor's old flat and for the first time are alone with themselves and everything that has happened. They take the opportunity to finally get to know each other on their new level of brotherly bro love.aka they fuck nasty in all sorts of different forms in the astral plane, where Viktor takes Jayce and shows him what's possible.
Note: Jayce is mainly a service top and Viktor a power bottom, but the two swap roles briefly. Viktor is male with a penis in most forms, but will also be seen as trans masc later on
