Ash couldn't even remember when exactly his cooperation with Federation began.
Well, maybe it wasn't exactly cooperation, but rather service in the name of their glory.A glory covered in blood and the devastation they wreak wherever their power reaches.
So when the island's residents began to rebel, they had to send a spy straight into their ranks to destroy their structures from within, so that the Federation could regain its absolute power.
The problem was, not everything went according to plan.

Summary
Scott woke up to find his entire coven gone and a weak bond tying him to a young nestling vampire without a sire.
Owen woke up to a bunch of new people in oakhurst, a sire bond in tatters, and an older vampire constantly calling him nestling and trying to trap him in a room deep below the castle.
Everyone else is just along for the ride, while some others later have to deal with Scott’s deep need for a coven.

Summary
Joel spent most of his life alone. Hybrids were hunted, seen as inhuman. Trusting others was a risk, and he had seen enough to know better. So he spent his time scavenging and “borrowing” from hunters as he traveled from place to place, never truly finding a safe place to settle.
That was until he was caught. Being taken by hunters changed everything. He comes back to a life full of pain, cages, and cruelty. That was until he met Etho.
Etho wasn’t scared when he was captured again. He had grown up in the system, he knew what he was getting into when the hunters pinned him down and took him to a cage. He knew his friends, who referred to themselves as the Hermits, a group of hybrids hiding safely away from hunters, would come save him.
So when he meets Joel, he promises him that he’d get him out. Joel struggles to trust him, but as the two survive captivity together, Joel realizes that maybe he could learn to trust again. Maybe a friend was something he actually did need in life.

Joel didn’t have anyone who could make the bad choice for him.
Etho had never been built for clean hands. But his hands were steady.
And that, in the end, was what Joel needed.
Or: A Boat Boys zombie apocalypse romance AU. A loose sequel to There Are Monsters Nearby by Uhohbestie, but readable as a standalone. The sequel where all the hermits get the happy ending they deserve.
