The way Arlecchino touched her was nothing like the taunting, teasing pokes and prods and pinches from her peers. Nor was it like the covetous, objectifying stroke of the many men and women who saw her as nothing more than a novelty.
It was cold, and hard. Their fingers were less like fingers and more like claws. They used their knuckles instead, kneading Lynette’s ears in a way that felt like caring reprimand.
“Learn to use them.”
Arlecchino’s command made Lynette suck in a breath. Was it possible that her ears, which had only caused her suffering and pain up ‘til now, truly had a use? Lynette’s heart swelled at the thought, and she looked up at her savior in a different light.
“Will you teach me how?”
