Yuu grew up believing he was happy, no matter what the circumstances were, everything around him and everyone around him was someone he had to be grateful for. His parents forced him to believe he was a happy child, despite what they'd done to him, and in his mind, he was happy no matter what.However, he was anything but happy.
Everyone around him could see it, his loved ones, his classmates, his teachers.
And especially the new guy who wants nothing more than to help this broken boy who seems to be going through so much pain.
Just what will it take to make Yuu understand that he's not as happy as he seems and to finally let those who care to help him?

Summary
Vampires living with humans is now legal. Vampires working as the royal guard is now legal. Having to be the "son" of the vampire Queen herself that ruled humanity's land means that regardless of what he wants, Mikaela has to do as he's told and moves into human territory to become the Queen's personal knight and prince-to-be.
Regardless of law, humans still are prejudiced to vampires and vice versa. Although tensions between them are high, some vampires are optimistic for change. Mikaela is not one of them.
After months of living in his new home, Mikaela meets the one known as The Nightshade Witch.

But during the Festival of Fools, Yuu, cheered on by his friends Shinoa, Mitsuba, Kimizuki, and Yoichi, decides to take part in the festivities, where he meets a handsome gypsy, Mikaela and the soldier and his lovers Crowley, Chess, and Horn. The nine of them find themselves ranged against Ferid's cruelty and his attempts to destroy the home of the gypsies, the Court of Miracles. And Yuu must desperately defend both Mikaela and the very cathedral of Notre Dame.
