The pink-haired woman just arches an infuriatingly perfect brow, a smirk starting to pull at one side of her mouth.
"Right. Because all farmers know that when the growing season starts the first thing they need to buy is three twelve packs of Monster."

It watches from the treeline, eyes glinting a primal, warning tone. It hasn't moved, not since Zoey spotted it, but Zoey gets the feeling thats intentional. Like it's daring her, waiting for her to make a decision and strike.

Now Mira stood outside Zoey’s door, heart tapping a frantic rhythm under her ribs. The hallway felt too quiet. Every creak of the floor echoed like it might be footsteps—but it never was.
She knocked, light but clear. “Zo?”
No answer.
She hesitated, then knocked again. “Zoey?” Her voice cracked a little on the full name.
Still nothing.
Her hand stayed on the door longer this time, like maybe Zoey could feel it. Like maybe that would be enough.
“I didn’t mean what I said like that,” she said softly. “I mean—I meant the words, yeah. But not like that. Not to make you feel like you were too much.”
Her voice faltered.
“I was frustrated. Not with you. Just… with how you kept saying you were fine. And I know that’s what you do, but—” she exhaled, her forehead pressing lightly against the door. “You don’t have to pretend with us. With me.”
She knocked once more, more tentative this time. “Zoey…?”
Silence.
Her hand dropped to her side, guilt crashing back down like a wave.
“…Yeah,” she muttered. “I deserve that.”

Zoey gets sick, tries to hide it, and convinces herself that Mira and Rumi have enough to deal with—without being a burden, too.

Summary
Mira usually loved the elevator. Loved how it took her anywhere she wanted to go inside their building from the lobby to the lounge, and every floor in between. Truly a godsend after a long day of performing, interacting with fans, or fighting demons; all while also in heels. Doubly so on those very rare occasions where the hunters loosen up and have an extra drink or two at dinner.
Right now, however, she kinda hated the elevator. Mostly because you couldn’t slam an elevator door shut. At least without some literal damage.
And today had been a slamming doors kind of day.AKA Mira's day gets ruined by a phone call and needs comfort from one of her favorite people. And Zoey is all too happy to oblige.

Rumi’s side profile was just—. Ridiculous. The bridge of her nose dipped just right, lips full, catching soft light from the screen. Her cheekbones did this thing—sharp, clean, sloped in a way that made it hard to look away.
Zoey’s eyes dipped to her mouth. Glossy. Soft. Pink.
Then her head tilted the other way, slow and lazy. Back to Mira.
And—Damn.
Mira’s lashes curled naturally, thick and dark. Her brows were clean. The kind of face that always looked stunning in photos. The kind of face that held focus in silence.
Zoey’s eyes dropped again.
Mira’s lips.
Plump. A little pink. Glossed from that balm she always carried but never let anyone else use.
Huh.
“Hey,” Zoey murmured, her voice low, pulling through the silence like a loose thread, “Have either of you ever had your first kiss?”
Or
Zoey's always been a little too observant for her own good—especially when it came to girls she liked. They were beautiful women, sharp jawlines and high cheekbones, long beautiful lashes, shaped brows, and gorgeous, plump lips—and it hit her just how pretty they both were. Too pretty. So of course, it made sense to ask them if they had their first kiss.
