The wide spread of the buckshot caught Travis in the side, tearing indiscriminately through shirt and skin alike. A scattering of misshapen silver slugs managed to bypass him, embedding in the wall behind, just not enough to matter.
Could have been worse, Travis thinks blindly into the initial finger prods of pain, it could have hit him centermass. Throat, heart and lungs rife for the puncturing, the makings of a particularly gruesome bullseye. Could have been at closer range too, taken his head clean off while the room was still under shroud and unknowable.
At least this way he gets to be aware of how he dies.

The girl that stepped out of the vehicle was attractive, not "sexy" or anything, but she was nice to look at. She walked over to him and he scribbled the directions on their map, directing her to the motel. She asked where the camp was and Travis almost circled it on the paper. He caught himself at the last second, hoping she didn't notice where his hand was hovering over the paper.
He took a glance at her and saw dirt covering her cheek. She must have fallen at some point. A familial instinct came over him and he pulled out a tissue to clean her face. She froze and looked very confused as he did so. He shrugged and mumbled an apology before dismissing her back to the car. As she walked away, however, he couldn't help but take a look at her backside as she walked away. Her pants clung tightly to her, showing off all of her curves. He wanted to keep staring but ripped his eyes away before anyone could notice. He returned to his car and waited for them to leave before also leaving the area.
