They had agreed not to purchase any gifts for the holidays this year. Severus had kept to the agreement with his wife and not got her anything. He had been secretly grateful that he didn’t have to face the seasonal crowds to find Hermione a trinket or book for her to open.
Not that he really minded getting her gifts; he adored seeing her expressive face bloom with joy when she saw what he had chosen for her, but she had been insistent that they save their funds. It appeared, however, that Hermione thought she was above keeping to their agreement and had got him something for Christmas.
