Her mind disconnected completely, trapped in the pounding rhythm of her own panic. She couldn’t let go. She wouldn’t.“I’m her girlfriend,” she blurted.
A stunned silence.
Agnes gasped sharply behind her.
Fester blinked, then raised an eyebrow with a crooked smirk. “Huh. I didn’t know Wednesday had such... glittery taste. Can’t say I saw that one coming.”
The paramedics looked between them again—then nodded.
“Alright. Get in.”
As they loaded Wednesday into the back of the ambulance, Enid climbed in beside her, hand still tightly wrapped around Wednesday’s. Her tears had stopped, but her chest ached like it was caving in.
