Zoey froze. Mira’s breath caught painfully in her chest.

Rumi retreated deeper into her room. "Just… please, drop it." Her gaze flicked over her shoulder, never fully meeting Mira's eyes.
"I can't drop it." Mira stepped closer, nudging the door shut behind her. "You flinched away from me. Like you thought I'd strike you. Why?"
Rumi's body went rigid. She turned sharply, her chest rising and falling in quick breaths, words caught in the back of her throat. But they tore themselves out.
"Because I was afraid you might."
Mira froze, her brow furrowing as though she hadn't heard correctly. "What?"

Rumi gets self conscious after a fight with demons and flinches away from Mira. And so later that night Mira makes sure Rumi knows she loves all of her.

Rumi crawled forward shakily until she was sitting at the edge.
It was even more dizzying when she got up close. She clenched her eyes shut, refusing to look directly at the ground below. Your friends will never accept you, so what purpose do you have if you can’t fix yourself? You failed all those people. Somewhere in the back of her head, Rumi couldn’t tell if the voice was hers, or something else. It sounded like her. It didn’t matter though, because it was right. A tear finally fell down her cold cheek and landed on her hand. She whimpered softly.Or, Rumi runs from the Golden performance and the voices in her head get the better of her. Mira is just in time.

They’re at game night. Alex is complaining about losing. Winn is pretending not to cheat. There’s laughter in the air, soft and golden, curling around the windows and cushions like smoke.
Lena’s half-listening, caught somewhere between the burn of bourbon in her glass and the curve of Kara’s mouth as she teases Alex.
She almost doesn't notice when Kara leans in, low and fond and a little breathless, and says under her breath, like it’s just for her:
“Zrhureiao.”

It lands like a meteor in Lena’s chest.

Lena blinks away from it. “Tell who what?”
“Kara. How you actually feel about her.”
Across the room, Kara stills after she hears that. Not visibly. Not enough for anyone without super senses to notice. But her name paired with the sound of Lena’s heartbeat shifting is enough to get her attention.
On the couch, Lena exhales through her nose, “It’s not like that.” It's what she manages, even though it is exactly like that.

Glinda wasn’t really sure what made her do it. All she knew was that she hung up the phone to silence her mother’s screams, took a right at an intersection where she normally turned left, and found herself in front of a tattoo shop.
The sign read “Oz’s Oddities” in that classic font that every tattoo studio seemed to use. A bit cliche, but it had caught her eye. She’d never gotten a tattoo before. The pain had been a slight deterrent, but more than anything it was the threat of being cut off from her parents’ money if she ever came home with anything more than simple earlobe piercings.But now she was cut off. Her ex was dragging her name through the mud to all their friends, she’d graduated college, and found herself alone with no job, a lease ending in two weeks, and no more allowance.
