Summary
It wasn’t that Vetinari couldn’t handle scents, of course. His preferences notwithstanding, he wouldn’t have got very far if every time air wasn’t pristine he completely lost his ability to focus. This was Ankh-Morpork, after all, clean air here was a mythical phenomenon that most inhabitants had never experienced. It was just that this particular scent made him remember.
Vimes receives a witch-brewed perfume for his birthday. Absolutely nothing can go wrong.
