Summary
Turning to scan around for any other familiar faces who's side she can seek refuge at from her unwanted suitor, Ilia instead spies Neptune on the other side of the hall looking for her again. She glances around for an avenue of escape, spotting the hidden entrance for one of the parlours Jacques sometimes does business in, and makes a beeline for it.
Slipping into the side room, Ilia leans against the door listening to the other side just in case Neptune saw where she went. A few moments tick by without it opening, and she moves back assuming salvation for now. She pulls away from the door, turning to make her way over to the seats on the far side.
And discovers that she's not alone.
Ilia runs from one problem directly into another, and learns that even misfortune can sometimes favour the bold.

"She's just..." Penny sighs again, fiddling with the hem of her dress as she finishes, "always so serious all the time. How am I supposed to be able to work with her when I can barely even talk to her?"
"Winter will warm up to you eventually, just leave her be and stop trying to force it," Weiss states, a flippant wave of her hand accompanying her response.
Penny huffs a breath that blows her fringe a little, not entirely believing the attempt at reassurance. "That's easy to say for you, you lived with her."
"Yep, and every day I'm glad I don't anymore."
Penny can take on anything Remnant has to throw at her, with little more than a smile and a swish of her skirt; life, love, and everything in-between coming easily to her...And in the end, it takes just one contrary alpha to unravel it all.

Summary
To her credit, Weiss does look sufficiently chastised when Pyrrha shakes her head in disapproval at her for being so rude. It doesn't last for long though, as she quickly drops Myrtenaster back in the locker and rights herself, extending a hand towards Pyrrha.
With a small bow, Weiss smiles a smile so full of nerves that Pyrrha can't help grinning back. "May I have this dance?"
Pyrrha's night takes an unexpected turn, when Weiss comes looking for her out on the balcony the night of the dance.

"We were saying that Ilia should come with us to Atlas, that's all."
Weiss hums an agreement, which prompts Ruby's focus towards the girl in question, Ilia shrinking only a little at suddenly being the centre of attention. She's still balanced up on the railing, and Weiss looks a second away from tugging her down. It's more amusing than it really should be, how exasperated Weiss looks at her leader's actions; and there's a little something else there, something Ilia can't quite put a finger on.
Mirth, maybe?
And well, now there are three pretty girls staring at her expectantly and Ilia is only one, small gay. Her answer comes out just a little bit strangled, and definitely somewhat clipped, but no one seems to notice.
"Okay."
Healing takes time.
It takes even longer, when there's multiple hearts in the mix. Ilia thought she'd lost Blake years ago, but not everyone who is lost is gone forever.
And sometimes second chances bring more than a first ever could.

Turning on her heel to head for the door, Weiss just catches Winter muttering under her breath, something about how she's ruined any fun they were about to have. That isn't what catches her attention though, no - that had been the plan, when she decided to press all of Winter's buttons and absolutely not in a good way. What catches her attention, is Ilia's cheeky comment at her retreating back.
"Would rather you stayed."
When Weiss goes knocking on the door to her sister's office, she's not surprised at what she discovers going on behind it.
The real surprise, is her staying long past when she should have left.

The 'Parables of Penny', as Winter has started to term them in her mind, are amusing and adorable in equal measure; having grown up around people hungry for power and wealth, listening to the easy adventures of a smaller soul are a welcome balm for her own jaded one.
Already, she's far too attached to this girl that she's not even had an actual conversation with, and she knows it. Blames it on the job, once again, and the fact that "of course she's going to care about someone in her care."
