Thomas would much prefer to get enough sleep each night. As it is, though, he is plagued by insomnia, restless thoughts driving him to exasperation in the early hours of the morning when there’s no one and nothing around to distract him. As soon as he lies down to sleep, an endless slew of future poems and, more troublingly, what-ifs flies into his head, and there’s no way to keep them out.
It must be gone three o’clock when Thomas gives up on sleep and resolves to wander the gardens.
