A booming, keening shriek pierced the air. It froze over.
Shamil’s head shot up. It wasn’t his own. It was loud and disturbed, echoing as if it shook the mountain itself. Pain became a background noise as a rare feeling of fear coiled tight in his chest. Weirdly enough, his SoulJam pulsed with fervor at the yell, as if calling back to it. It was warm, and vibrating happily, which it’s never done before.
Besides that, he didn’t know what the noise could’ve come from; can’t be a bear, they’re more deep-throated, couldn’t be a bird, their too small–
A bird. A harpy.

Shamil is a poor con-artist who is unknowingly fated to be soulmates with Vanilla, a harpy.

"I'm seeing you right now." Pure Vanilla tilted his head the same way, letting some strands of his hair fall over his face―long pieces that were tucked behind his ear afterwards. "Floating on my balcony. Sulking―"
Or in the middle of trying to be something else other than the Beast of Deceit, Shadow Milk Cookie unfortunately fell in love with the one person he shouldn't.

Summary
The agreement had been fragile from the start.
A deal done between beasts, a settlement meant to decrease death on both sides, to cull the unmedigated slaughter and chaos that both inflicted on the other. Though the dragons had been resistant to the deal, they ultimately agreed upon it when it became clear that their smaller numbers would dwindle out before they could exterminate humans. One living dragon left wouldn't be able to recuperate like a dozen humans would. So they had agreed to the settlement, laying a tentative treaty of peace between kinds, if only to lessen their kind's blood that was spilled.
That treaty had been tested from the start.

"You look terrible." Alhaitham stated bluntly as he raked his teal eyes over his face, barely making contact with Kaveh's red ones that glared at him with indignation.
Kaveh knew he looked terrible. However, he certainly did not need his roommate to point that out.
"Congratulations." He retorted sarcastically. "No wonder they offered you the role of acting grand sage. Only an astute scribe as yourself can spew such intricate wisdom."
Kaveh was definitely more irritated than usual, he realised. Still, it wasn't fault that Alhaitham kept coming up with new ways to drive him crazy when he was clearly not in the mood.

Your usual Haikaveh sickfic except I add in more angst than necessary. Take a neurodivergent Alhaitham and combine it with a painfully oblivious Kaveh, and this is probably(?) what you'll get.
|This is for my queen abbi who reads way too many kaveh/alhaitham fics and is unhealthily obsessed with them. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it for you. <3|
