Noelle and Kris have known each other forever; they grew up together, Kris pulling pranks that made Noelle shriek only to get chased around by Dess with a wiffle bat in retaliation, playing video games together until Kris inevitably decided to get up and go play the Holiday family's piano...
Then Dess went missing. Kris went quiet. Asriel left for college. Distance grew between friends.
Dess came back. Kris started to smile again. Noelle and Kris reconnected, and together, they survived high school.
College is going to be a new challenge all its own, but at least they're in it together, right?
...Then Noelle meets her new roommate, Susie, and things get a little more complicated.
(AKA I refuse to pick a ship so all three of these dorks are going to figure out the whole friendship thing and fall for each other or so help me)

It has only been a week or two since the end of the world. The fun gang failed at preventing the Roaring and it came to pass.
Even when all hope seemed lost, everyone was able to come together and banish the Angel's heaven. With everyone saved and the darkners cast back into shadow, life returned to normal.
Our heroes, however, still have some unresolved feelings that they haven't been able to vocalize to each other.

“He was brainwashed,” Desdemona declared, tugging against Puck’s jacket with a white-knuckled grip. “Just like in that Earthling movie.”
Puck tilted his head up glancing up at their planet parent. His lips pressed into a thin line, eyebrow twitching before he patted the ground, making room for the moon. She slid off his back abruptly, feet kicking back and forth.
“That’s not a thing,” Puck finally mumbled, head tilting down and averting his gaze from the sleeping ice giant.
“It’s a thing-it’s called mind control; dad was brainwashed to be evil.” Her wings lowered sluggishly, yawning as she spoke. Her shoulder slumped against his side, voice muffled by Puck’s jacket.

Ceres tried to purr in attempt to calm himself, but his efforts were in vain; the instinct that allowed him to make the nice sound had been robbed, replaced by strange vocal cords that weren't his own.
The skies let out another boom.
Ceres cried out, and pushed his face into his pillow as much as he could.
So why was he so terrified of it every time?
"Ceres?" That same, gentle voice he adored sleepily called, somewhat soothing his nerves. Not enough to abandon the darkness he'd discovered, but enough to ease his trembling. "Hey, what's wrong?"
Boom!
He grabbed the edges of the soft thing his head lay upon, and pushed it as much against his ears as he could. "...Oh!"
"A-aw..." The ringed dwarf planet cooed at him with a yawn, sounding somewhat shaky himself. "T-thunder sounds scary when you're this s-small, huh...?"
Or
After returning to the solar system, our dwarf friends have been dragged to Earth's surface too. The smallest of them doesn't seem to be appreciating the sounds of thunder at three in the morning.
