Scott spreads his legs slightly.
“Come on, Pyro,” he murmurs. “Show me just how sorry you are.”
Pyro freezes. It feels like he’s leaning over the edge of a cliff, vertigo and adrenaline coalescing into wild terror as the river below roars in his ears. For once in their life, he wishes he was stupid, that his brain didn’t work overtime stringing evidence into conclusions, that he didn’t— that he couldn’t figure out—
Pyro glances down to Scott’s spread legs, and back up to his face. They know what Scott is telling them to do. They really, really, want to be wrong. -

For a moment there was nothing at all to be seen on Scott’s face. Then something unfurled in his expression, and he started laughing, bringing up a hand to cover his mouth. “Oh, I see, I see. You’re a big scary vampire hunter, and I’m a vampire, is that it?”
“Well! Yeah,” Avid said. Scott might have him backed up against the wall, heart in his throat, but that didn’t mean Avid was going to just give in. “You’re not gonna take me without a fight!”
“Of course not,” said Scott, placating. “You’re a big bad monster hunter and you’re going to stab me with your stake, then? You’re going to pin me down and make me take it?”
“I—well—I’ll kill you,” Avid said.
“Right,” Scott said. He was still smiling. “You think you can get on top?”
Avid pays a visit to a suspected vampire. It goes about as well as could be expected.

The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

Grian is a vet. After a chance encounter in the dead of night, during which he accidentally saves a villain from the brink of death, he suddenly finds himself entangled in a world beyond anything he could've ever imagined.
