    Prince Scar was always going to die, and perhaps it should’ve been obvious that if Grian swore to be by his side until that moment, he’d have to be complicit in his death. Grian wanted victory, he wanted crowds cheering his name, the riches, the fame, he wanted it all because he thought it’d make him happy. It will, if he can ever forget how Scar smiles when he knows he’s going to die. Scar is already burning to ash in front of him and they haven’t even said goodbye yet.

    They both know they’re standing on a grave. They both know Grian isn’t going to play the gracious hero, plead morals over greed- he’s not going to be the bigger man.

    Perhaps even more painful than the fact that Scar was always going to die, was that Grian was always going to be the one to kill him.

    Or, Grian is a general entrusted to help Prince Scar lead his troops through the war because, as he learns, the man is an utter fool who doesn’t even know how to wield a sword.

    By the time the war is over, Grian thinks he might be a fool as well.

    When Avid traveled to the faraway town of Oakhurst, it was with the intention of helping a peculiar client purchase a property in London. He’d been exchanging letters with Lord Goldsmith for a while, and even though he’d never had an assignment like this before, he thought he knew what to expect.
    Unfortunately, he soon finds out he’s bitten off more than he can chew…
