Summary
When the dust settles on Hawkins, Steve Harrington prepares himself for a life of mediocrity, according to his dad anyway.
Steve’s not sure where he fits in anymore since he no longer has to fight his way through interdimensional monsters. He’s floating, coasting almost, and none of his clothes feel right on his skin anymore.
As people leave the small town Steve grew up in (and will probably die in), Hellfire Club loses a member just before embarking on an important campaign.
With a little bit of bullying from The Party, Steve joins their ranks as their resident changeling fighter, hoping to find a way to still make himself useful as the kids grow older and Steve thinks about what he wants his future to look like – which might involve his friend turned DM; Eddie Munson.

He glances at his brother and Jiang Yanli, who still seem lost in their own world, before putting the book back. Not wanting to disrupt them, he goes to open the door himself and immediately freezes.
In the doorway is the most beautiful man Meng Yao has ever laid his eyes on - and Lan Zhan.
The most beautiful man, who has a jaw that would make Clark Kent jealous, widens his eyes slightly in surprise and then smiles. Meng Yao’s brain fills with static.

Meng Yao looked away, trying to figure out the words to convey how confused he was by the last few weeks of events. But then, he thought, this was like Nie Mingjue in temperament. He still vividly remembered the day he had gone from ‘carrying water for ungrateful assholes’ to ‘vice-general’ in the space of two minutes.
Looking somewhat amused, Lan Xichen said, “I’ve found over the years that Mingjue-xiong will occasionally make an assumption or a decision and then act on it, forgetting that the rest of us aren’t mind-readers, and if he doesn’t tell us what he’s doing, we won’t know.”
