And it was different, because it was never about Till living in the first place. If he were to die right then on that dark stage, still staring at Ivan’s cooling body, Ivan would have been fine with it. Till’s soul would’ve joined his and Sua’s, trapped on the very same stage, but at least they would be together. And Ivan would be happy, because it was never about sacrifice or giving Till a chance; rather because Ivan, selfish, selfish Ivan, didn’t want to be the one that had to live.
It was about himself the entire time, and his insatiable desire to be the first of them to go.

He's dead.
As if the thought just now struck him, a horrible wave of grief washed over him, dowsing him where he stood. It was as if he was back on that mountain eight years ago, sorrow new and fresh in his chest. An awful, desperate longing lodged itself into the tremble of his hands. Arthur Morgan is dead, and it hurts just as much as it did the first time.

“Let's just - let's just get home,” Arthur says, grabbing his hat from where it fell off in the shootout. He reaches into his satchel and pulls out his lasso, tying it into a makeshift bridle and slipping it over Taqqiq's face. She snorts, blowing hot air onto his neck as he leans to place it over her ears and under her throat. He grabs the rest of the rope and slings it over her neck as reins. He pats her cheek, and she nips at his forearm softly.
“Just for today girl,” he assures, and the telltale squeak of leather allows him to know that John and Javier are already mounted.
He gives her one last pat and moves to hoist himself up, but he falters. Quickly, he turns his head back towards Taqqiq's, confused.
Were her eyes always that light of a brown?

The novelty of being dead fades quickly, and watching over his companions soon fills him with grief and guilt. Oddly, a faint flicker of hope arises in the form of his youngest kinsman, a Dwarf of Durin's line with bright red hair.

Summary
When he was a child, Bilbo was told of soulmates. They were a legend, really, so rare they only happened in the shire every few hundred years- but his parents had sworn up and down that they were meant for one another, cut from the same cloth or different sides of the same coin.
Bilbo had believed, and wished himself- that one day he might find his other half.
And then his father died, and his mother turned into a shell of herself, alive but really quite half-dead.
She’d died a few years later of natural causes, yet far too young.
Bilbo wonders if there’s such things as soulmates in Dwarven culture.
Or: hobbits soulmates will die if their other half does. Bilbo finds out the hard way.

The journey to Erebor was a grueling affair, marked by blisters, rain, and the constant threat of being eaten. But for Bilbo Baggins, the greatest challenge wasn't the Orcs, it was the sheer logistical nightmare of being a Hobbit in a company of Dwarves who knew absolutely nothing about Hobbit physiology.
Most folk in Middle-earth knew that Hobbits had large, hairy feet. Some knew they had a penchant for seven meals a day. But very few knew about the ears, and almost no one outside the Shire knew about the tails.

When Balin said those words to Bilbo, he never expected to see that love soon put Bilbo's life at risk.
But even worse than that, he never expected to see that same look in Bilbo's own eyes.
