Summary
The Tesseract is an object of incredible power.
It is for that reason that Odin wants it back.
Unfortunately his eldest is away, drinking away his braincells on another realm, and so he sends Loki. When Loki meets with a Tesseract powered weapon and a drug that can remove his seidr, he's captured by Hydra circa. 1945 and meets one James 'Bucky' Barnes, joining the Winter Soldier project with no choice of his own.

The only sign that Shouta feels any level of discomfort is the steady rhythm of his fingers, twisting into the strands of his capture weapon. A pang of fondness jolts Toshinori’s chest. How lovely it is to feel so warmed by something so simple.
“What?” he says faintly, too dazed to connect the dots.
“You decided to live,” Shouta says, urgent and emphatic. “What was the other option?”
