He flexed his toes on the beige carpeting, the fibers tickling his skin. He had so much skin. It was darker than Arthur’s by a couple shades, less a milky white and more a chestnut brown. His hands were larger than Arthur’s, too, but the fingers were the slightest bit shorter.
All ten of them.
All his.
Just like his feet. Just like his eyes, and his arms, and his legs, and his hair. He had hair now, incessantly tickling him where it fell against his collarbone in dark waves, drooping in front of his face with every shift of his head.
Everything belonged to him and him alone. Just like he’d wanted.
So why did that thought make him sick to his stomach?

Parker would ask him about it only every so often and, as much as he was a bit of a hard-ass, he knew what it looked like when he pushed Arthur the wrong way. He was a sensitive soul. Parker knew not to push.

They rent a small apartment in downtown Arkham, confident they will not be recognized by anyone important enough--or powerful enough--to ruin what they have scraped together. All told, it could definitely be worse.

To find meaning in a world of indifference. Purpose in a sense of chaos. A limit after infinite suffering. As an act of mercy instead of cruelty.
And light in an ocean of darkness.

Summary
“Alright,” Arthur says, and begins to detail brief stories of their recent adventures. John begins to press the keys at random, simply tapping along in time with Arthur’s words until he believes that was what John was typing. Noel tries his best not to laugh - but a small chuckle escapes him and Arthur’s head snaps up to look at him. “What?”
“Nothin’, nothin’. Just got a bit of a cough, that’s all.” Noel says, grinning. He winks at John before Arthur can turn his head back around.

Summary
There had been times, there, in the beginning of their acquaintanceship with one another, that Arthur would have liked nothing more than to rend the King’s fragment from the fabric of his psyche and have his own goddamn eyes returned to him. He would have done anything to make it so, even if that meant the suffering of John before he had ever had the chance to receive the name.
And now he had both.
For some reason, some god had smiled down upon him for the first time in his fucking life and he was able to stumble out of hell with all five senses and that second soul safely housed in its own flesh.
Like a fucking miracle.
He only wished his part of the miracle didn’t sting so violently.

The body that was once his lays four inches from him.
And he wishes he could return to it.
