He presses Stelle's gloved hand to his lips, vermilion touching white in a way Stelle could swear stains the cloth yet leaves no trace, eyes still boring into hers. The touch feels like fire against her skin, even through the glove. "Won't you let ol' Sampo sweep you away? I swear I'll answer your question, guaranteed."
Stelle barely resists a blush, and sighs, as if inconvenienced. "Fine."
That was her first mistake. Really, she should've long ago learned that yielding to Sampo would never bring her any good.
Sampo smirks, intertwines their hands together, and, with a laugh, pulls Stelle along with him, and out of the ballroom.
Stelle just lets him.

Fuck.
This was the first time Lute had ever seen Adam’s face, and she wasn’t sure if he realised how much of a big deal this was to her or not, but it was. It was like he suddenly just trusted her a hundred times more than he had before.
Lute studied him. She wasn’t sure what she’d expected him to look like, but what she was seeing in front of her wasn’t it. He was...handsome, actually. Something Lute never thought she’d think about the man in front of her, but somehow did. He didn’t look like the asshole of a man she’d known since she got here. He looked more relaxed like this, maybe even approachable.
“Sure there are”, he agreed, “but none of those women are you.” Lute froze. Why the fuck would Adam say something like that to her?

It stared up at her with wide, horrified, hopeful yellow eyes. Now that she actually looked, she couldn’t deny that she would have known them in any lifetime. The shape of his face was the same. The hair was the same. The voice was the same. But—
The creature before her had one more eye than it should have. It had horns growing out of its head — the same shape that the ones on his helmet had been, but real in a way that no angel’s were. Knives grew from the tips of its fingers, impossible to be covered even by the gloves it wore.
The thing in front of her was undoubtedly a demon.
Adam had been an angel.
Adam was dead.
