Vax hates his stuck up roommate. He hates his stupid post-it's, his awful classical music, that bastard 3D printer and his unfair waist to shoulder ratio. And he definitely doesn't have a crush so if everyone could stop insisting he does that would be great okay?

Until the cave-in. Forty-three hours trapped in absolute darkness, the air growing thinner with each labored breath, the taste of copper and limestone dust coating their tongues. Death seemed certain when Vax finally whispered "I love you" against Percy's cracked lips. Percy's response wasn't words but a desperate press of mouth against mouth, fingers tangling in Vax's matted hair. When Grog's axe broke through the stone barrier minutes later, they'd scrambled apart, blinking in the sudden torchlight, unable to meet each other's eyes.
Vax loves Percy. Vex loves Percy. Vax is pretty sure he knows this ends with him losing everything.

He wore subdued finery, all black and silver, and moved with the languid confidence of a cat burglar surveying a mark.
Percy froze, heart thudding in his throat. He’d memorized the guest lists—he was compulsive that way—and this face wasn’t on it. Or maybe it was, and Percy had not expected anyone so striking to appear among Whitestone’s usual crop of inbred aristocrats.
The stranger glanced down, catching Percy’s gaze. His eyes were dark enough to look almost golden in the library’s warm light. “You’re not supposed to be here,” the stranger said, voice pitched just above a whisper.
Percy's mother is determined that all of her children will make a match that would keep them safe. Percy just wants to be left alone.
