Sherlock could feel the walls rising. He expected John to be happy to see him, perhaps impressed that he was still alive; he’d even prepared himself for a hug or show of physical affection. He expected some scolding, but not much more than ‘a bit not good’ and then they’d laugh. But this; to find John living with, having a family with, one of the very men he’d been trying to save John from, and then for John to be angry that Sherlock hadn’t died; it felt as though John was telling him he’d rather Sherlock had died.
