Summary
Harry is going into his second year at Hogwarts with an entirely new mindset. He is finally free from the Dursley's abuse, and he couldn't be happier with how everything has turned out. After spending the summer with his best friend, he is now on his way back to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to continue his magical education. It doesn't matter what's to come, because right now, everything in Harry's life is perfect, and he is ready to navigate through the trials this year may bring with his friends by his side.

Derek eventually reaches room 401. The door is closed and he can hear the beeping of a heart monitor on the other side. He hesitates as he reaches for the door, noting the labored and shallow breathing coming from the room’s occupant. A pang of worry shoots through him and, shaking off his hesitation, he grasps the handle and turns it, opening the door softly.
His breath catches in his throat as he takes in the sight of his mate lying prone on the hospital bed, an IV line in his arm, and multiple wires leading away from his body, connecting to various machines next to the bed.

“Have you reconsidered my offer, Ichigo?” Lord Aizen asks his captive. His words are laced with a calm veneer, expertly concealing his apprehension toward the young man’s reply.
“I have.” Ichigo answers simply, his tone devoid of all emotion.
“And what have you decided?” Aizen presses, leaning forward on his throne, anxiously awaiting Ichigo’s answer.
Ichigo’s brown eyes seem to regain their life as a flicker of strength passes through his gaze. When he speaks, his voice is sure, determined, leaving no doubt about the truth of his declaration.
“My power and strength are yours to command, Lord Aizen. I am loyal to you, and you alone.”

Derek laughs outright when he sees Stiles pop out of the water, spluttering and hacking up seawater with his dark hair plastered to his forehead.
‘He is so ridiculous.’ Derek thinks lovingly as he reaches a hand into the pocket of his swim shorts, palming the small wooden box concealed within as he looks down at the striped beach towel he’s sitting on.

The death of Cedric Diggory has left Harry spiraling into a pit of unrelenting despair. He's angry at himself, at Voldemort, and at the world for allowing this to happen. If he couldn't protect Cedric, then how is he going to protect the ones he loves. It is for this reason that he's been avoiding Draco, afraid of what his presence in the blond's life will ultimately lead to.
After two days of avoidance, Draco decides that he's had enough. He won't allow Harry to continue on this path. He loves Harry, and he can't just sit back and watch as the person who means the most to him is engulfed by darkness and self-loathing.
