Glinda wishes she could reach her somehow. When she catches the movement of her hand: open, welcoming, lonely. She grabs her hand and holds onto it with all her might, so she might never slip away again. “Don’t be afraid,” Glinda tells her. She means the words, but they are not just directed at Elphie, but at herself.

“Elphaba Thropp, I know you’re out here,” Glinda releases the words into the air around her. She can feel eyes on her, but there is no Elphaba to greet her. She sighs defeatedly, “Just come in before the monkeys spot you.”
And then suddenly there she is. The sight of her takes Glinda’s breath away. Those horrendible posters do not do her likeness justice. (Her heart cries out. She has missed her over these five long years.)

Everything that could finish that sentence feels to Glinda like she’s only reminding Elphaba what she could do. “I promise you’re safe.”
Elphaba crashes onto Glinda’s balcony, and Glinda has to hide Elphaba from the world while she recovers.
