Bruce is answering a question Clark asked, even as Clark himself is clearly not paying attention—atleast not to Bruce's answer. When the silence between them lasts four seconds, Clark realises it's his turn to speak with a start. Straightening to his complete height and knocking his head against the bookshelf that was clearly meticulously kept in frame and intended to be aesthetically pleasing. The books he knocks over tumble over his head and towards Bruce, an onslaught he stops by shielding Bruce from it with the bulk of his frame.     Bruce, as always, was an exception.
