On one hand, he and Kudo always got along great—why would re-getting to know him prove any different? On the other hand, he felt dirty for trying to get close to a man who had no clue of their past relationship, one that was as complex and unstable to top it off.
There was nothing wrong with hanging out with Kudo. There was everything wrong with hanging out with Kudo.

Shinichi almost wanted to laugh. So much for being a rational person. He knew that loving someone involved a certain amount of pain and suffering, but this was a little ridiculous. He wondered if he’ll actually die—covered in a burial of morning glories that were suffocating him from the inside out.
Yet he would always choose this kind of flowery, agonizing demise rather than a withered, empty existence.

So for Lon'qu to see him - Robin - with raw scars down his arm, cut in obscene angles and spelling out self-deprecating slurs... It was beyond his comprehension. It was as if he was witnessing a pegasus getting its wings torn off. A plight to a beautiful creature.

Ren was having a pretty productive day, all things considered.
Everything was falling into place. Ducks and rows and the former in the latter, that sort of thing.
Akechi was currently stewing in enough rage to make his cell start steaming, no doubt, and he was just about to add fuel to the fire. Ren had to actively fight a grin as he walked into the police station.
OR: It's a lovely day for an interrogation and Ren is a horrible little detective.
