Summary
On Christmas Eve, 2008, 9 year old Akio (Alex) Sato lost his parents when a mutant lost control of their power in Chicago. 6 hours later in New York, 10 year old Alice watched an anti mutant mob burn her parents alive.
Both survive and taken in. Alex by Marcus, a kind police officer. Alice by the X-Men. Both are thought the principles of equality and co-existence. Then Marcus died protecting a mutant child. Alice watched as her best friend died and Krakoa fell to human violence.
Alex is a US Army Ranger turned Orchis black ops, hunting the people he holds responsible for his loss. He tells himself it's about control, but he is a man at war with his own code. He protects civilians no matter the side. Yet executes a compliant POW. With each mission, he is forced to confront the contradiction between his personal code and the weapon his trauma has made him.
Alice, After Krakoa's fall, co-leads the occupation of Roosevelt. She says it's about survival yet willing to enable tyranny in the name of her cause. A series of encounters with the humans she's subjugating and the ghost of her own sin will force her to confront the contradiction between the monster she has become and the person she used to be.
