    Summary

Four times Ilya Rozanov reminded everyone exactly who the fuck they were dealing with (spoiler: still an asshole, still elite, still not going anywhere), and one time he didn’t have to be anything except soft.

Or being out didn’t make him nicer. Being married didn’t make him softer. Being older didn’t make him weaker. And being a father? Well. That’t when things get complicated.

(He’s really good at that last part. Don’t tell anyone.)

    Summary

He only realizes he’s doing it when it’s too late to stop.

He’s standing in the drink aisle of the grocery store, checking the expiration dates on the cans of Coke, mentally cross-checking them with Boston’s away game schedule, and the reality hits him like someone shook one of those cans and popped it open. A snap. A fizz. A mess.

Shane is making space for Ilya.

    Summary

“Because I can’t fucking do this, Ilya. I’m going to my parents’, I- I need a break, alright? Shit.” Shane’s gaze locked onto his keys and he picked them up, stalking towards the door. He needed a break from the arguing and he needed to go somewhere he could breathe and collect his thoughts, so he could process this correctly and talk about it with Ilya civilly. Everything was still suffocating and overwhelming and Shane needed out, needed to go sit in his car and drive in silence to his parents’ place.
    -
Ilya had seen enough breakups to know what one looked like. Shane ignored him, and looked irritated, and said he couldn’t do this (this, like everything between them could be reduced to a single word other than love), and said he needed a break (his confidence in Ilya’s English was comforting up until Ilya realised it meant Shane didn’t feel the need to say the dramatic I’m breaking up with you that characterised the ends of relationships).

    Summary

On their wedding day, Ilya stands at the front of a sunlit room with Shane's parents at his side and an empty space in his chest where his own family should be.
He tells himself he can survive that. He tells himself love is enough to make a home out of anything.

Ten years later, Ilya finally realizes it is.

A cottage in Canada. Smoke from the grill. friends turned family. Two kids with bright futures Shane talks about like it’s the safest thing in the world.
Ilya has everything he never let himself want—until his head starts to buzz, a roar turns the sky violent, and the world cuts out mid-laugh.

A storm hits. A pilot reports mechanical trouble. Contact is lost.

Shane is left with one message—four lines that feel like a vow carved into his ribs—and the kind of grief that doesn’t arrive all at once, but teaches you how to breathe around an absence anyway. He learns what it means to wake up and keep going. To love someone who isn’t there. To carry a life that was supposed to be shared.

And still… some promises don’t disappear just because the signal does.

    Summary

“Did you hear that, Granger?” Draco says. His words are clipped by the effort he’s put into clenching his jaw. “Pink.”

    “Pink,” she repeats.

Emily nods vigorously. “Pink means soulmates.”

“Or it means you hate each other,” Jamie quips.

Ruby rolls her eyes. “But obviously you don’t.”

After a silly little Divination project says so, a rambunctious student is determined to prove that Professor Granger and Professor Malfoy are, in fact, soulmates.
