A high-paying job that would help rebuild his father's restaurant and more to spare to build his own, endless high-quality ingredients from different parts of the world, he can learn from other cooks of the palace too and experiment with different dishes. Working inside the forbidden city is a dream for many cooks. But Sanji could only bite his cheek.
For all its glitz and glamour, he'd rather dunk his head on the nearest pond than let his guard down. He knows how treacherous this kind of place is. He just hopes he still have his head by the time his contract to this job ends.

“Holy shit,” Wolfwood says at the sight, “When did the insurance girls get a–” He cuts off, eyes roaming over the child, clearly taking in her tan skin and dark rumpled hair, the set of her mouth and the shape of her nose, and the way Vash immediately takes her at the fussing, settling her on his hip and shushing her gently.
“Vash,” Wolfwood says, “Vash, I need you to explain. Right now.”

Sanji is ten years old when he meets the changeling boy, and only two more than that when he had his own funeral. A war erupts in the name of a scapegoat. When the Fae king of the Sun Court makes a demand for royal blood as payment for peace, Sanji isn't at all surprised to be the chosen sacrifice.
