"I ain't high, I'm observant," Bradley said earnestly, his brown eyes huge, liquid, and entirely unshielded. The guarded, slow-burning Rooster was completely gone; in his place was a giant, filterless golden retriever of a man who had apparently decided Jake Seresin was the center of the universe. "Look at your mouth. You got that little pouty thing going on. You rationed, sugar? You saving all that sugar for me?"
(or: The one where Bradley gets put on heavy sedatives for a routine shoulder procedure, completely loses his filter, and spends two hours aggressively worshipping Jake in front of an exhausted Navy flight surgeon.)

“Jake,” His name rolls off smoothly out of Bradley's tongue. “The last thing I wanna do with you if I get in that bed is sleep.”

Or Jake's battling with newfound feelings for the guy he claimed to despise. It all culminates after an almost death experience and one unlucky (or, quite lucky) mistake while on a night out in Tokyo.

“Do you want to pop the question now or later, then?” Jake calls from where he’s apparently stopped in the kitchen.
And, really, there’s nothing about the statement that strikes Bradley. Jake poses the question so naturally, so casually, like he’s asking if his boyfriend is jonesing for Chinese or Thai. Maybe that’s why Bradley just calls back “tonight,” happily, mindlessly, a soft grin splitting his face in two.

Summary
Jake slides a cigarette out of the pack and holds it between his lips. He cups his hand around the lighter as it sparks to life and catches on the end of the cigarette. He inhales the first puff deeply, sighing in relief as the familiar little buzz ignites within him. The smoke fills his lungs and blows out of his nostrils, the stress from the nightmare melting away.
Jake takes another drag, the smoke blowing into the chilly night air. He looks down at the cigarette in between his fingers and lets out another sigh. This isn’t something he ever wanted to get caught up in, but the relief he feels when he smokes…it’s enough to make all of the risks feel worth it.
The most disheartening thing is that it all began with innocent curiosity.
Or: Jake falls back into his old vice of smoking in the aftermath of the mission. It turns out his love for Bradley is the only thing stronger than his desire for a cigarette.

Jake scoffs. It comes out thick, like something is caught in his throat. “Of course I do, I’m not the one with two cracked ribs, a dislocated shoulder, and a sprained ankle.”
