Summary
Max finds parties predictable and tiresome. All he wants is a moment of quiet during a Monaco soirée. Instead, in a dim hallway, he stumbles upon a beautiful bartender named Charles Leclerc being harassed. Max intervenes, not out of habit, but because of a strange, compelling pull. The rescued Charles offers a very… specific form of gratitude. Max, usually all about control, finds his logic overridden by a pair of captivating green eyes. This is not how his night was supposed to go. At all.

The soft, confused noise he lets out makes Max hush him again, his hand coming to rest on the back of Charles’ neck. “Max,” He mumbles against his skin, and that helps, touching him like this, to be so close. The itch underneath his skin doesn’t go away, but being in Max’s arms helps. “I don’t understand, you are— you are an alpha?”
He feels Max shiver. “Yes,” He says tightly, and Charles makes another noise, high-pitched and bordering on keening. He’s never felt like this before, but he’s also never been near an alpha when he went into heat either. Has never wanted to submit before. “Fuck, Charles, you need to let me go—."
Or, Charles is an unmated omega in a world where you present when you meet your soulmate.

‘‘Go find some hoe to fuck around with and get lost!’’ Charles said angrily, shoving Max back towards the door of his hotel room. He gripped the shoulder of Max, trying to get him to leave before the Dutch pushed him off.
‘‘I don’t want some hoe!’’ Max yelled at him, tears welling up in his eyes. His breathing was unsteady, the sight of the more-than-angry Monegasque in front of him clearly not helping to stay calm.

“Are you sure about this?” Charles asked instead, laughing unbelievably and shaking his head. “This is not something we do, mate.”
“It could be something we do,” Max said, grinning at him. His fingers flexed on Charles’ hip, and it did something weird to Charles’ brain. When he looked back on this moment later, he would blame Max’s big hand on his hip for what he did next.
Because for some reason... Charles kissed him.
He wasn’t sure why.

Craning his neck behind them, Daniel laughs his loud, creaky hyena laugh. “Don’t look now, but he’s still watching.”
“Who?”
“Chuck.”
“Chuck. There’s no way he lets you call him that,” Max says, voice rife with disbelief. He also can’t help it—he turns around, jostling Daniel’s arm over his shoulder to look back toward the media pen. Charles is in fact still watching them disappear down the paddock. His head is tilted to one side, a look of consideration on his pretty face. He doesn’t look actively upset, but he doesn’t look particularly happy either. Fuck.
“He doesn’t let me do anything. I just sort of do it and he laughs and blushes and looks at me with his big cow eyes.”
“Big cow eyes,” Max repeats, disbelieving yet again.
“Not actually, but sort of,” Daniel says, grin making his eyes crinkle. What the fuck.
“He’s blushing at you?” Max sounds petulant. Jealous, even. He needs to get a grip.
