For as long as Arthur can remember, he was told to never show any emotions. “Emotions are a sign of weakness,” Uther would say. And yet, it seemed like Merlin’s feelings were his strength.
He’s noticed the open happiness that comes out when his mother calls, or the blazing anger when Arthur didn’t reciprocate his willingness to talk, or the waves of sadness as he played the piano for his late father. It’s not like he wanted to distance himself from Merlin. He didn’t mean to come off as cold and heartless. It’s just how it had to be.
