Xie Lian rubbed a hand against his forehead, Hua Cheng’s direct question leaving him flustered.
“Ah, Qingxuan said that it could be good for me to…”, another sheepish cough, “to get to know some new people. To, uh-“, Xie Lian looked away, “…to flirt.”
He could feel the weight of Hua Cheng’s stare against the side of his face.
“…To flirt”, Hua Cheng repeated, his face unreadable.Xie Lian downloads a dating app. Hua Cheng is of course there to help him.

Summary
The floating island-esque heaps of human refuse that made up Xie Lian’s home were an attractive spot for astray sea life. At first, Chu Wanning pulled away, unsure of what to do as he cried and pleaded with an unseen person to stay, please, don’t leave me. It had to be Shi Mingjing, the one Taxian-Jun was mourning. Surely, he wouldn’t want Chu Wanning to witness his grief, much less soothe him. Chu Wanning, the man who left his true love to die.
Still, eventually, Chu Wanning began to comfort him. Reached out to rest a hand on Taxian-Jun’s head, patting gently, carding his fingers through dark strands. And it calmed him, somehow, made the weeping fade and subside. So, the next time the nightmares struck, Chu Wanning reached for Taxian-Jun every time, always, no matter how bruised, battered, or aching he felt. No matter how much his own heart was filled with anguish.
And that’s what he does now.

He walks over to the window, pulling the metal chair after him and pushes it against the wall. Clambering up, he stands on the chair to lean his elbows on the window sill, staring out the glass through the bars.
Dawn had approached while he had been in the examination room, the orange orb of sun peeking up from the horizon. Waves break against the white sand of the shore, the glare of the sunlight making it look like the beach was lit up from within. For the umpteenth time, he wonders what was out there beyond the deep blue water; longing to know, longing to see, longing to feel.

But when his feet lead him back to his and Kaeya's childhood 'hideout', he can't keep ignoring the guilt and grief he wears like a second skin.
