He had known, deep down, that it had been a bad idea to ask Ilya to come with him this summer. Perhaps if he hadn’t been injured, lying in that hospital bed high off his face on pain medication, he wouldn’t have found the courage in the first place. But when Ilya walked in looking like he was one word from falling apart, Shane had relented and let himself hope, desperately, pathetically, that Ilya felt a fraction of what Shane did as Ilya stroked his face with the back of his knuckles, how he felt when Ilya had confessed that Shane’s injury had scared him. And perhaps if Rose hadn’t filled his head with stupid, romantic fantasies, he wouldn’t be standing in the summer breeze at his parents cottage, feeling the same way he had after leaving the Vegas penthouse all those years ago.

Summary
Shane is at their local coffee shop grabbing Ilya's favorite iced protein coffee and his normal tea when it happens.
He'd noticed the older man watching him since he'd entered the small shop, his body tensing when he'd followed him inside.
Shane feels the man's watchful gaze, the way he tracks him without a smile or any excitement and he can tell this isn't a normal fan. His guard is automatically up as he grabs their orders from the pick up area with a small smile and a polite 'Thank you' to the baristas, and turns toward the door.
But the man is there, blocking his path.
There's something predatory in his dark eyes, an empty smile on his face that is unnerving to Shane as the man takes one more step closer.
"I've always wanted to know who my brother abandoned his family for…”
The accent is familiar yet colder than anything he's ever heard from Ilya. But there is no mistaking the similarities now as it all clicks into place.
His brother.
Alexei.
OR
What if Alexei shows up in Ottawa after they get married, during their first season together on the Ottawa Centaurs? Why is he here? What does he want?
Shane doesn't care. He just wants him gone.
