Summary
The Wutai war has been raging on, Cloud having been enlisted some years ago. After helping Aerith break out of her shell, Tifa is found hosting a gathering with the former's new lover, Zack Fair. However, Tifa has a gut-wrenching realization of the fate Aerith has become secured to.
Based on the short story, "The Scent of Incense" by Sata Ineko (1942).
This was originally a "rewrite assignment" for university which I reframed into FFVII, because the brain rot is strong even in finals season. -

After Nibelheim burns down at Sephiroth's hand, he is beaten by the infantry boy Cloud. This doesn't take well for Sephiroth, causing him to become obsessed with this random, not-even-yet SOLDIER. As the curiosity eats away at the first class, he takes it into his own hands to survey the boy himself.

“Let’s cut to the chase. We know what we’re here for.” Cloud’s throat catches on the last syllable. He’s so damn nervous, it’s a wonder he can even speak at all. “But today I, uh, have a guest.”
A bronze hand slides from out of frame to wrap with lazed possession around Cloud’s throat. There’s the faintest chuckle as Cloud responsively lifts his head.
Zack says, “Think I’m more than that.”
Cloud asks Zack to help him film a video. To his confusion, Zack’s more than willing.
