Summary
Memory is so easy to drown in. Yeonjun stares into it like the flickering flame of a lit match in the cold. An incandescent dream, warm light from colorful birthday candles, the smile on Kai’s face when he turned nineteen, back before the world crumbled and caved in. The five of them gathered around the table, the butterflies in Yeonjun’s chest when he leaned over to smack a daring kiss on Kai’s cheek. The disgusted squawking and shrieking that erupted from the others just to morph into teasing laughter. Hooting and hollering when Kai was bold enough to seek revenge by kissing him back on the mouth.
Everything was so beautiful when they were unaware of the end.

“I–” Soobin starts. “I have to go home.”
“You will. But not yet. Just…” Another sigh. “Keep your head down. It'll be easier for all of us.”
“Easier?” He can hear how his voice pitches up. “You're going to keep me here against my will, and I'm just supposed to– You kidnapped me!”
The sharp guy in the corner bristles. “Accidentally.”
Soobin’s breath punches out of his chest in an incredulous laugh.
Or; Soobin sees something he shouldn't and becomes the unwilling passenger on a smuggling run, stuck with a crew that distrusts him and promises to let him go home eventually.
But eventually turns out to be long enough to change too much.

Summary
The fact that Yeonjun liked to bring girls home wasn’t a problem at all. That wasn’t it. It was more so the fact that she didn’t seem to care if Kai was home or not, sneaking in after dark with a girl giggling behind her, not so quietly stumbling down the hall to her room, and not so quietly getting up to whatever it was Yeonjun did to those girls to make them keen like that.
And it’d been bearable for a while (as bearable as it could be) until Yeonjun started bringing home girls that Kai knew. And girls she liked, at that.
The one about giving in, learning to share, and the impossible thing that is wanting more than you can handle.

Summary
It was a complicated balance act, this thing they had, and the tightrope grew thinner in the wake of the cold winter tide. Yeonjun knew, Kai knew that Yeonjun knew, and still they walked it hand in hand. He never wanted to ask too much of Yeonjun. And to tolerate Kai in the dead of winter was to tolerate a silent blizzard tearing the door off the hinges of the only place one felt safe.
So for the briefest second, when he felt that warmth spread through his chest, the thawing left him with tears pricking behind his eyes, and he smiled.
