Bookmarker's Notes
This was so beautiful. I’ve got family who struggle with depression, and the gentle way Ed encourages and shows love, well, I wish that kind of partner for us all.
And having grown up in snow country, that description of the first snow, the light and the smell…I’ve never seen anyone capture that so well!

Summary
If this man lives— which Ed has no intention of allowing to happen— he could start a whole fresh horror story, could tour the seas telling this brand-new tale about Blackbeard’s specific brand of savage violence. This time, it would even be entirely fucking true.
This time, it won’t be Izzy that kills a man for him, or the flames of a fire, or the blow of a fall. It won’t be committed from a distance, and it won’t be an experience-twice-removed, and it won’t be outsourced to somebody else. It won’t be an accident; it won’t be a legend; it won’t be a mistake, or an exaggeration, or just another myth that sailors tell each other for scares late at night.
It won’t be a technicality that kills the man that killed Stede Bonnet. It’ll be Ed.
or: ed and stede are ambushed, and ed thinks he sees stede die. he doesn't, of course, but ed doesn't know that.

Summary
“Do I still make you happy?”
Ed suddenly wished he hadn’t offered, but he had given Stede his word, and they weren’t going to fix whatever they were without being honest. They both knew when Ed said on the beach that Stede made him happy that he had been saying so much more than that, and now Stede was asking if it was still true.
“Yeah,” Ed whispered, “think so.”
“Well good,” Stede was blushing, but he didn’t pull his gaze away, “you make me happy, too.”
They were still in love.
Ed let out a shaking breath, waiting to see if Stede would do something, anything, to move their relationship forward. Stede watched him just as closely, like he was waiting for permission.
“Think you should probably kiss me now,” Ed whispered, the tension in the room suddenly crushing.
“Would that be alright?”
“Yeah.”
“Lovely.”
