Summary
Lily learned to be an animagus but wound up pregnant during her time learning, so because she performed the ritual and took the potion while her developing baby was in her, he also technically went through the ritual as well. So, binding the magic until he could learn to control it was the easy part, staying alive to teach him was the part that failed.
As Albus was about to leave Harry with the Dursleys, he found evidence that Sirius took a blood oath to protect Harry, forcing him to bind the newly discovered metamorphmagus ability to keep his own plans from being ruined.
Harry Potter lived his life miserably, so it was a surprise when he decided to save his fat bully of a cousin from the creepy lanky man, who turned out to be a werewolf, leading him to being bit. That one bite changed everything.
