Summary
Zuko's never been a liar. That's always been Azula's thing. But now that he's living in enemy territory, he literally has no choice- and the guilt is starting to get to him.
Toph's never had a choice when it comes to acting- she has to, because the girl her parents think she is doesn't exist. She doesn't feel guilty about it at all, not really.
(or, sometimes a liar and an actor are exactly what the other needs)

Summary
After his ill-fated Agni Kai, Zuko is cast out of the Fire Nation without even so much as a hope of returning. Dumped on Earth Kingdom shores, he's forced to come to terms with the fact that his father likely wants him dead- and that maybe the Fire Nation was never that great to begin with.
That's the painful part.
The weird part? The weird part is breaking into a nobleman's manor in order to steal food, getting caught and then being hired to protect (babysit) said nobleman's blind daughter. Then again... maybe it's exactly what he needs right now.
(or, toph never got her field trip so now she gets to hog zuko for three whole years)

Summary
"He doesn't know why Shinra approached him, doesn't know why Shinra decided to return to school to look for him, doesn't know why Shinra did the things he did, does the things he does, and will do the things he eventually decides to do. He's as much of an enigma to Izaya as Izaya is to him, and that, he supposes, is why they got themselves into this mess in the first place." / Canon AU, related to Phantasm

Perhaps because this is the first time he's seen the beautiful side of the other world, but then again the beauty of that world only goes so far." Canon AU, spoilers for the novels.

Summary
‘Can you?’ Shizuo's arms are trembling with the fatigue of restraint, and Izaya might never be graced with such humanity again. ‘Can you...take it. Izaya. Tell me you can take it.’
For all of Shizuo’s honest violence, Izaya is pulled towards him for what he can see beyond that— Shizuo is so simply and painfully but a man. It's what makes him the fiend he is, and so Izaya leans forward, perilously close, looks into Shizuo’s eyes. ‘Can you?’
(Canon backstory + post 2x12 trying-to-fix-it.)

Summary
Little ditty in canon with Orihara backstory and Izaya saving his baby sisters.
“…What an idiot teacher, to think any kid that age would understand a reason more complex than “blue is my favorite color”. Honestly, he didn’t know which had been more irritating lately – taking care of his five-year-old twin sisters, that freak of nature Shizuo he’d barely escaped the other day, or pretending to care about his classes."

Summary
"Who wants to go three floors down into an old abandoned asylum just to copy a document? There's no power, and the back up generator will only activate the emergency signs. You know how people are nowadays. Believing in ghosts and stuff. It sounds like it's coming straight out of a horror movie, so of course no one wants to do it.”
Izaya takes on what seems to be a simple job in a scary setting. It only takes twenty-three seconds to convince Shinra to go along, and Namie agrees to drive them only because she may have warmed up to the informant in the worst possible way.
